Panthers Hold Off Wildcats on the Road Sunday

11/10/2024 4:44:00 PM | Women's Basketball

HIGH POINT, N.C. - Despite a late-game push, the Davidson women's basketball team came up short of a come-back, falling 56-53 to High Point University Sunday on the road.

Candice Lienafa and Kyra Bruyndoncx led the charge for the Wildcats combining for 24 points with 13 and 11, respectively. Millie Prior paced the 'Cats on defense grabbing 15 of Davidson's 36 rebounds and making two blocks while going for seven points and four assists.

A slow start offensively put the Wildcats behind 15-3 in the opening quarter, with Davidson unable to convert on a field goal in the first 10 minutes of action.

The 'Cats were able to overcome the shooting woes over the second and third quarters, keeping up with the Panthers 24-25 in scoring.

Davidson continued to power through the fourth quarter, out-scoring High Point 26-16 and connecting on 55.6 percent of its final quarter shots. However, the late-game heroics came too late as the Panthers took a 56-53 win to the final buzzer.

High Point, who started the game shooting 54.5 percent from the floor, got double figures from Aaliyah Collins (18) and Dom Nesland (15) while Shakira Baskerville brought in 10 rebounds.
