DAVIDSON, N.C. – For the second time this season, junior Jayden Smith was named the Atlantic 10 Track Performer of the Week following a clean sweep of the 60-meter hurdles at the Carolina Challenge this past weekend.
The Richmond, Virginia native began the day with the fastest qualifying time at 7.87 seconds. Then, a few hours later, he took first place in the finals with a time of 7.82 seconds. Both times were top-ten marks in program history but the latter is currently the fastest mark in the A-10.
Now a third-year veteran, Smith appears to be revving up for the rest of the indoor slate after he recorded a time of 7.83 at the team's season-opening event back in December. He earned Track Performer of the Week honors from the conference following that first-place finish as well.
So far in his two completed indoor campaigns, Smith has won back-to-back A-10 championships and owns all ten of the top-ten fastest marks in the 60-meter hurdles.
