Late Goal Lifts App State Past 'Cats

9/3/2023 4:59:00 PM | Field Hockey

BOONE —Appalachian State broke a scoreless tie late and edged Davidson 1-0 in field hockey Sunday afternoon.

The Wildcats, who defeated Queens 7-1 on Friday, exit the season's second weekend with a 2-2 record.

Jillian Orcutt did the damage for the Mountaineers, scoring with 8:11 to play and helping the Mountaineers improve to 3-1.

Davidson finished with a 4-3 advantage in shots-on-goal, with two of those coming off the stick of Sib Naaktgeboren. Abby Pompeo and Sarah Grace Clifton had one apiece. Just more than two minutes after Orcutt's goal, Naaktgeboren and Clifton threatened with shots, but App State keeper Addie Clark saved both.

App State held a 5-2 advantage in penalty corners and a 9-8 edge in total shots.

Up Next
The Wildcats will play their next two games on the road, including at No. 4 Michigan on Friday, Sept. 8.
