'Cats Carry Momentum in Win Over Lindenwood

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson Wildcats earned their second 3-0 victory in as many days on Friday night, swiftly sweeping the Lindenwood Lions during round two of the Wildcat Classic.
With the win, the 'Cats improve to 4-1 on the season and are winners of four straight matches.
Davidson's defensive efforts at the net continue to be a bright spot this season, as the Wildcats combined for 15 total blocks. Senior Anela Davis led the way with two solo stops and four block assists, while freshmen Kayla Davis added one solo block and two assists and Emma Slusser had another three assists of her own.
On offense, Davidson swung at a .356 attacking percentage, including a season-best .459 in the second set. Kayla Davis had five kills on eight swings (.625), as Jackie Bardin and Sola Omonije each hit .500 and Isabel Decker held a match-high 12 kills.
In set one, the Lions and 'Cats were squared up at three points apiece before setter Xuan Nguyen led Davidson on a six-point run from the service line. With a 9-3 lead, Davidson served four more aces to pull away for good and secure the 25-13 first set win.
The Wildcats continued their momentum into the second, gaining a 17-10 lead before Lindenwood pulled back within three of the 'Cats at 18-15. From there, setter Jan Marie Duhaylungsod ignited Davidson's offense, dishing an assist to Anela Davis to shut down any Lion threat for the 25-16 victory.
Davidson trailed for a majority of the deciding third set, down by as many as five points at 16-11. With Decker at the end line, the sophomore served the 'Cats back in front, thanks to help from the timely offense of Kayla Davis and Omonije, to tie things up at 16-all. Ultimately, one final block from Anela Davis and Slusser, and one more kill from the right side rookie, would seal the deal for the three-set sweep.
