DAVIDSON, N.C. - Davidson football head coach Scott Abell welcomes two familiar faces to his staff in Chris Watts and Bryce Perry-Martin, in his announcement Friday. In addition to Perry-Martin and Watts joining the 'Cats, former defensive tackles coach Ray McCartney will move into the role of Director of High School Relations.
"We are excited to name Ray McCartney our Director of High School Relations," Abell said. "As our program has grown, so has the need to communicate and develop deeper relationships with high school staffs and recruits.
"We are also thrilled to add Bryce and Chris to our Davidson football family. Bringing Bryce back to Davidson is exciting for everyone and Chris adds a great deal of experience and success to our secondary.
"They both will be great mentors for our players."
Watts will take over as Safeties Coach after amassing 122 wins, 16 playoff appearances and a state title as a head coach at Liberty High School, in Bedford, Va. The Huntington, WV native is a four-time conference Coach of the Year, a two-time Regional Coach of the year and was named the Virginia State Coach of the Year.
The former Marshall defensive back served as an assistant coach under Abell at Liberty High School for two years before taking the reins.
Three-time Davidson Defensive MVP Perry-Martin has returned to his alma mater to begin his tenure as the Assistant Defensive Line Coach. The Spring Lake, N.C. native was a three-time All-Pioneer Football League honoree as part of the driving force of Davidson's jump to one of the more dominating defenses in the nation. While at Davidson, the former standout amassed 197 tackles, 44 tackles for loss and 15 sacks for the 'Cats.
The four-year letterwinner and two-year captain's homecoming at Davidson follows a two-year stint at Washington & Lee where he worked with the defensive line.
