
Late Surge Lifts SLU Past Wildcats

SAINT LOUIS – Davidson volleyball dropped its first Atlantic 10 match of the season on Friday night, falling 3-1 to Saint Louis from inside Chaifetz Pavilion.
The result marks Davidson's first loss since Sept. 16 and moves the 'Cats to 7-1 in A-10 play and 13-6 overall.
Despite the final score, the Wildcats jumped out to a full-speed start over the Billikens. With two kills and a block from Anela Davis and three early service aces, the 'Cats pulled away to an immediate 13-3 lead. As Davidson hit .500 through the first frame, and held SLU to an .037 attacking percentage, the Wildcats cruised to their 25-15 set victory.
Davidson's momentum carried over into the start of set two, as kills from Isabel Decker and Sola Omonije lifted the Wildcats to another comfortable 6-0 lead. The 'Cats continued to lead for much of the second set, until Saint Louis' Emily Henkin notched one of her match-high 14 kills and tied the set at 17-all.
The Billikens finally took their first lead of the night at 20-19, after a block assist from Jillian Mattingly and Kayla Richardson, as Mattingly ended the night with a career-high 10 total blocks and helped SLU settle the match score at 1-1 with a 25-20 win.
Over the final two sets, the Wildcats hit .023 and .047, respectively, while Saint Louis hit a steady .195 and .345 to finish out the A-10 win.
Overall, Decker paced the offense with a team-best 10 kills and libero Bella Brady had a match-high 21 digs.
