Wildcats Dominate Rhody in Three-Set Sweep

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- With a 3-0 sweep over the Rhode Island Rams on Sunday, and their second win in as many days, the Davidson Wildcats have opened up A-10 play at 2-1, marking their best start to conference play since 2015.
Davidson had its second-best offensive outing of the season against the Rams, swinging .294 as a team with 46 kills and a season-low nine errors. Rookie Isabel Decker led the way with her sixth career double-double (11 kills, 11 digs) and Sola Omonije dominated at the net with 11 kills on 20 attempts and zero errors (.550). For the second-straight night, Xuan Nguyen paced the offense with a match-high 23 kills and Jessie Doyal was right behind with 19 dishes of her own. Bella Brady anchored the defense for the 'Cats recording her eighth 20+ dig performance of the season.
After being tied up at four points apiece early in the first, Sophia Hritz and Sola Omonije provided back-to-back kills while also combining for a block at the net to boost the Wildcats to a 7-4 lead. With dominant serving, including six service aces, Davidson pulled away to a 16-10 stronghold. Despite the Rams pulling back within one, at 16-15, another service ace from Nguyen and a kill from Rodriguez sealed the deal and allowed the 'Cats to secure the 25-19 win.
The Wildcats torched the net at a .385 clip in set two, which included 17 kills, while the Rams hit. 098 and allowed Davidson to cruise to a 25-16 second set win. Although the final set proved to be a tighter race to the finish, as the 'Cats led just 22-20 near the end, junior Paige Johnson came up with two clutch kills on the right side to secure the sweeping Atlantic 10 victory.
Davidson will return to action next Friday and Sunday for more A-10 action from inside Belk Arena. First, the 'Cats will face George Washington on Friday and then host George Mason on Sunday.
