Volleyball Splits 5-set Matches In Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. — The Davidson volleyball team went 1-1 in a pair of five-set matches Saturday on the first day of the College of Charleston Invitational.
The Wildcats, now 4-3, earned a 3-2 win over Campbell in their first match of the day, then took a 3-2 loss to Idaho State in the nightcap.
Against Campbell, the Wildcats took the second set 26-24 and the fourth 25-22, then rallied to win it 20-18 in the decisive fifth after trailing 14-11. Lauryn Albold's kill gave the Wildcats a 19-18 lead, and Albold and Sola Omonije combined for a block to end it.
Hattie Rodriguez tied her career-high with 26 kills, while Isabel Decker had 16. Xuan Nguyen and Jessie Doyal had 27 and 22 assists, respectively, and Bella Brady led the way with 29 digs.
Against Idaho State, the Wildcats won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-21 but had to again go to a fifth set after the Bengals rallied for wins in the third and fourth. Idaho State won it 17-15.
Rodriguez had 20 kills and Decker added 15, while Brady had a career-best 36 digs. Nguyen and Doyal had 31 and 23 assists, respectively.
