This year's Wildcat Top 21 saw support pouring in for each of our teams, aiming to reach that top spot in both the overall results and in scholar-athlete alumni participation. Each program hoped to knock off our reigning champs, men's soccer and women's lacrosse, respectively. But it was not to be.
Men's soccer took the overall top spot for the second year in a row, with an astounding $165,977 raised for their program.
"We are so grateful to our alumni, families and friends for their support over this past year," said Head Men's Soccer Coach Mike Babst. "One of the things that makes Davidson soccer so special is that the players and families who have come through the program never really leave it, and winning Wildcat Top 21 shows how many still care about our team and the experiences of our scholar-athletes. Such an amazing way to end the year and such momentum to kick off a new one!"
For the second year in a row, lacrosse came in with the highest scholar-athlete alumni participation percentage for their program, securing the $10,000 challenge gift. Lacrosse alums hit a new high of 55 percent alumni participation, up from last year's 51 percent.
Head Lacrosse Coach Kim Wayne was thrilled with the win and the added support for her program.
"The challenge gift is a much-needed boost to our annual budget, and I am grateful for it," she said. "Also, seeing how our alumnae base stepped up to win this challenge, knowing the impact this gift would make to our program, is truly special."
Our scholar-athletes are the real winners, with more than $12.5 million raised this fiscal year for Davidson Athletics. Every gift makes a difference today and into the future. We are so grateful for the continued support that allows us to do athletics the right way! Thank you to all our donors for playing an integral role in the experiences of all Davidson Wildcats and our athletic programs.
