Stiebing Named A-10 Rookie of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Davidson field hockey freshman Lena Stiebing has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the league announced Tuesday morning.
The midfielder/forward from The Hague, Netherlands is leading the 1-1 Wildcats with two goals, two assists and six points this season, and she's the Wildcats' first A-10 Rookie of the Week since senior Nellie Turnage (2017).
"Lena has a way of playing on direct and dangerous lines to the goal — and it has paid off for us on these opening weekends," said coach Zoe Almquist. "It is a great start for a promising young player, and I'm so proud of her."
Stiebing had a goal and two assists in Saturday's 4-2 win over Appalachian State, scoring in the 15th minute. She then assisted on goals by Corynne Hammit and McGee Roman, as the Wildcats struck three times in the second period.
Stiebing scored the team's lone goal in her college debut Feb. 14 against Liberty.
She and the Wildcats return to the field Saturday when they host Longwood at 2 p.m.
