NEWARK, DEL. — The Davidson field hockey team came up short 1-0 in a tightly contested contest with Ball State Sunday at the University of Delaware.
The loss is the Wildcats' second in as many games. Sierra Jefferson's goal at the 24-minute mark proved to be the difference.
"Today stung a bit because we were so close," said Davidson coach Zoe Almquist. "It is tough to look at an outcome objectively when a few different bounces would have meant the difference between a win and a loss. But, when I do try to take a step back, I am proud of the changes that we have made, even just since Friday."
Davidson had three shots on goal, including two by Caitlyn Gund. Goalkeeper Sarah Zeszotarski saved seven of the eight shots she faced.
"It is a matter of continuing to put the pieces of our game together in the right way — and if we continue to do that, we will work toward the outcomes we are looking for," said Almquist. "As we head into our home opener on Friday, I hope we can push our highest level even higher and at the same time, bring along the pieces of our game that are currently a struggle."

Davidson will host Ohio at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6. It's the Wildcats' home opener and their only home date in the first eight games of the season.
