WASHINGTON, D.C. — Davidson scored two late goals Friday in the nation's capital, but it wasn't enough as Georgetown posted a 5-2 victory in the season opener for both teams.
"We had a lot of small victories from today's game," said first-year Davidson coach Zoe Almquist. "We had great defensive corners, were 1-for-3 on attack corners, scored two goals in the fourth quarter. I'm really pleased about all the changes we are working on making. There is still plenty of work to be done, but going into Ball State Sunday, I'm really looking forward to taking our next steps as a group."
Ellie Maransky and Lindsay Getz scored two goals apiece as the Hoyas built a 5-0 lead. After a scoreless first period, the Hoyas struck twice in the second, once in the third and twice in the fourth.
Davidson broke through with a goal from junior Sydney McKenna with less than four minutes to play. McKenna, who scored three goals last year, shot from the right side of the box to inside the left post.
Three minutes later and just seconds before the end of play, McGee Roman added a goal off a deflection. It's the junior back's first college goal.
