MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – Senior Kristin Kisa netted a pair of goals in field hockey's Atlantic 10 opening victory at Saint Louis Sunday at Sportport International, 2-1.
With the win Davidson improves to 3-4 overall and opens A-10 play at 1-0, while with the loss Saint Louis falls to 2-7 and 0-4 in league play.
Trailing 1-0 early, the 'Cats regained composure and capitalized off a penalty corner for their first goal of the day. Senior's Courtney Byler and Leigha Nortier set Kisa up for her fourth of the year to knot it at one goal apiece at the half.
The 'Cats outshot Saint Louis 11-4 in the first half, but could only muster the single goal.
The second half proved light on offense for both sides with only 5 shots registered combined, but Kisa's second of the day, the eventual game winner, with under four minutes to go in regulation, was all Davidson needed to claim the road victory. Sophomore Nellie Turnage was credited with the assist.
The 'Cats finished with 13 shots, 6 on cage and led by Caitlin Gund's 4. Junior goalkeeper Sarah Zeszotarski made 2 saves in the winning effort.
Lili Wareham scored the lone Billiken goal just 6:29 into the game.
Davidson continues its road swing with a trip North to face A-10 foe Massachusetts, Sep. 28, and ending with a non-conference clash at Yale, Sep. 30.
