Second-Half Surge Leads Longwood over DCFH, 4-1

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Senior Courtney Byler put Davidson up early, but Longwood's strong second half lifted the Lancers over field hockey Friday evening at Belk Turf Field, 4-1.
With the loss Davidson falls to 2-5 overall, while Longwood improves to 5-2.
Byler got things going early for the Wildcats with a goal just 3:19 into the game, her second of the season. The Virginia Beach, Va., native redirected a Kristin Kisa chance to break Davidson onto the board.
The 'Cats weathered a first half Longwood storm as the Lancers fired off 14 shots (Davidson - 5), but were unable to beat Sarah Zeszotarski and the Davidson defensive front.
The Lancers came out of the break and found their groove, scoring 3 goals in the first 10 minutes of the second frame. Leonie Verstraete led the charge with 13 total shots, 9 of them on target, and 2 goals. Briana Greene and Olivia Wawryzniak also found the back of the cage.
Zeszotarski finished with 12 saves as the Lancers fired off 17 shots on cage.
Davidson returns to action Sunday, Sep. 23 when they travel to Saint Louis for their Atlantic 10 opener with the Billikens. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. Eastern/12 p.m. Central.
