NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Davidson field hockey player Julia Smith has been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team, the conference announced Thursday.
The freshman back from Wilmington, Del., started 12 of the 17 matches she appeared in this season and posted three defensive saves.
"I'm excited for Julia to receive this recognition," said Davidson coach Ginny Turner. "She really stepped up and made an impact in our defensive line, including making some key defensive saves. Her speed was also a huge asset to our backfield. I look forward to her continued impact on DCFH over the next three years."
Smith notched her first defensive save in the Wildcats' 2-1 win at Yale Sept. 30. She also had one in a 2-1 home victory over Central Michigan Oct. 14, and her third came in a 3-2 loss to La Salle Oct. 21. The La Salle match marked her seventh in which she played all 70 minutes.
