PHILADELPHIA, PA. – The Davidson field hockey team struck first Sunday, but the Wildcats were unable to maintain their lead in a 3-2 setback at La Salle.
The loss drops the Wildcats to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in the Atlantic 10.
"It's tough because we played strong," said Davidson coach Ginny Turner. "Then unpredicted things happen on the field turf. … We controlled as much as we could and fought back hard in the second half. Unfortunately, we just ran out of time."
Leigha Nortier scored her fifth goal of the year in the 10th minute to give Davidson the 1-0 lead it held much of the first half. But La Salle (7-8, 2-4) eventually responded with goals from Amanda Chapin and Taylor Hafer in a two-minute span. Logan Oh's goal in the 49th minute extended the Explorers' lead to 3-1 before Davidson closed the gap with Sydney McKenna's third goal of the year with 4:26 to play.
Kristin Kisa assisted on both Wildcat goals.
Bean Rodriguez had five saves in her third straight start.
