LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Davidson field hockey dropped its third conference matchup Friday, falling 2-1 to Lock Haven at Charlotte Smith Field. The Wildcats slip to 0-9 (0-3) on the season while the Bald Eagles move to 7-4 (2-3 A-10).
Senior Paige Albert collected her first goal of the season, while freshman Sydney McKenna became the team's points leader after dishing the assist to accompany her first career goal last week. Albert led the offense with three shots.
Sophomore Sarah Zeszotarski collected eight saves, including two brilliant second-half saves, and junior Courtney Byler picked up her third defensive save of the season, a statistic she led the league in last season and continues to do so in 2017.
Lock Haven wasted no time, getting on the board less than five minutes into the first period after the Bald Eagles' launched a direct shot off a deflected penalty corner. They added to their lead about 15 minutes later, knocking the ball in the cage off a rebound.
Albert cut the lead in half in the 25th minute, taking a cross pass from McKenna and firing the ball to the far post.
The 'Cats had chances during the second half, including firing off back-to-back shots late in the frame from sophomores Emily Roebuck and Byler, both resulting in saves. Albert pushed off another shot just a few minutes later, but it went wide.
The 'Cats continue their road trip Sunday, visiting league-foe Saint Francis (Pa.) for a noon face-off.
