NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- With just a few days remaining until Davidson Field Hockey begins its 2017 season, senior Hannah Fisher welcomes her final campaign by being named to the Atlantic 10's Preseason All-Conference squad as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. In addition, the 'Cats were selected to finish eighth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
"Hannah is very deserving of this recognition," head coach Ginny Turner said. "She is a true competitor who is unwavering in practice and in games. She's been an impact player for us since her freshman year and she has already shown us in this preseason how much she can push herself and her teammates. I am confident she will be a big play maker for us this season, while still consistently working hard to make her teammates look good."
Fisher, a Fredericksburg, Va., native, is the top returning points leader for DCFH, even after missing a portion of 2016 due to injury. She finished her junior year with 17 points (6 goals, 5 assists), recording a hat trick in her first game back (a 3-0 victory over Colgate on 10/16), the first Wildcat to do so since 2013. The midfielder serves as the primary inserter on penalty corners and carried a .588 shot on-goal percentage. In her first three seasons with Davidson, Fisher has accumulated 30 points.
The honor is the second of her career, after being named to Preseason All-Conference during the 'Cats first year in the A-10 in 2015 as a sophomore. She is the only Wildcat to ever earn Atlantic 10 Preseason distinction.
Fisher and the 'Cats face Georgetown in Washington, D.C., on Friday to begin the season.
