
Football Welcomes Hank Hughes to the Staff

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson head football coach Paul Nichols announced the hiring of Hank Hughes as Defensive Run Game Coordinator and Linebackers Coach.
"We are excited to welcome Hank and his family to Davidson College. [Coach Hughes] possesses an intimate knowledge of defense as well as a wealth of experience," said Nichols. "We are blessed to have him join our program. I am eager to see his impact on our program particularly our student-athletes."
Hughes brings a wealth of football knowledge and experience to the Wildcat locker room, having served on NCAA FBS staffs since 1993.
"I'm excited for the opportunity to work with Coach Nichols, the student-athletes, and the staff at Davidson College," said Hughes. "Jackie and our children are eager to get settled here and be a part of the Davidson community."
Hughes most recently made two quick stops at Nebraska and Cincinnati, serving as the Huskers defensive line coach in 2015 and co-defensive coordinator and d-line coach with the Bearcats in 2014.
Prior to his time in Cincinnati, Hughes served 13 seasons at the University of Connecticut, serving as the defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the Huskies from 2001-2013.
During his stay in Storrs, Hughes' helped lead the Huskies to five bowl games and won a share of two Big East Championships. His 2012 defense ranked ninth in total defense and seventh against the run. In the program's first year in FBS play, his defense ranked fifth in the country in pass defense and top-20 overall.
While at Memphis from 1998-2000, Hughes helped the Tigers lead the nation in rush defense in 2000. He also had coaching stints at Harvard, James Madison and Lafayette, as well as two seasons in the professional ranks with the Montreal Machine of the WLAF.
Hughes is a 1979 graduate of Springfield College where he played linebacker.
