NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Junior field hockey player Courtney Byler will add another honor to her steadily growing resume after being named to the Atlantic 10's First-Team All-Conference squad, as announced by the league this afternoon.
"The A-10 has numerous exceptional athletes and I am so proud that Courtney could be recognized as one of them," head coach Ginny Turner said. "Courtney has been such a stand out player for us through her consistency, her exceptional defense and her willingness to push hard and raise our level of play every day. Courtney is a special player, a great leader for us and very deserving of this honor."
Byler finished the season ranked first in the A-10 and seventh in the nation in defensive saves, logging five. She finished the year with seven points, tallying a goal and tying for a team-best five assists. The junior was also nationally ranked a year ago for defensive saves and assists, finishing with 11 and six.
Byler, a defender, holds the single-season record for assists, and ranks third in program history in both assists (17) and defensive saves (13).
The Virginia Beach, Va., native becomes the second Wildcat in school history to earn the distinction, joining midfielder/forward Melissa Funsten in 2015. She is the fifth Davidson player to earn all-conference recognition since the school joined the league in 2014.
