NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Freshman field hockey player Nellie Turnage has been named the Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Turnage becomes the first player in Davidson history to earn the honor.
The Denver, Colo., native handed the 'Cats their second win of the season Sunday, caging the game winner after the Wildcats remained scoreless through two overtimes and tied 2-2 in a stroke-off against LIU Brooklyn in New York.
Turnage, the fifth shooter for the 'Cats, took the ball low and used her speed, pulling the ball right around the goalkeeper and pushed it into the back of the cage, playing the hero.
The forward registered a perfect 1.000 shot on-goal percentage for the week, tallying four shots, all on-target.
