DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson field hockey (1-8) returns home for a non-conference weekend tune-up, welcoming in-state foe Appalachian State Friday and California's Pacific on Sunday, both at Belk Turf Field.
The 'Cats are looking to snap a six-game losing skid, led by senior captain Anne Federico's nine points (three goals, three assists). Junior Anna Brewer sits atop the league with two defensive saves, and also boasts five points off two goals and an assist. Sophomore Bean Rodriguez's 37 saves rank her fifth in the conference.
Fans can watch both games via the live streaming links provided, and can also follow live stats and the @DCFH Twitter account for in-game updates.
LAST TIME OUT
A late equalizer from senior captain Katherine English was short lived, as Davidson dropped its third Atlantic 10 contest, falling 2-1 to La Salle in Philadelphia Sunday. English netted her second goal of the season off a penalty corner dish from junior Lauren Gampper. The Explorers took advantage of three Wildcat yellow cards and four corners late in the final frame to notch the gamewinner.
SCOUTING THE MOUNTAINEERS
App State enters Friday on a 1-7 record, their lone victory also coming against LIU Brooklyn. Junior forward Taylor Cimbalist tops the squad with 12 points (four goals and four assists), and the Mountaineers' only other double-digit point holder is freshman Melissa Nobile, with 10 (four goals, two assists). Redshirt freshman Rachel Gaines reigns as goalkeeper, posting 52 saves with a 4.45 goals-against average.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Pacific will face App. State Saturday in Davidson before taking to the field against the 'Cats on Sunday. Entering the weekend, the Tigers hold a 7-3 record, most recently posting a 5-1 win over Missouri State and an 11-3 toppling of Saint Louis. Pacific is on a seven-game win streak, averaging 23 shots per game, and boasts five players with 15 points or more. Their leader, sophomore Marguerite van Wyk, has 12 goals and 10 assists for an incredible 34 points on the season. Veteran Laura Pujade has logged the majority of the keeper minutes this year, pulling in 31 saves.
