DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson field hockey (1-4) opens up conference action this weekend, welcoming Atlantic 10 rival VCU on Friday at 6:00 p.m. at Belk Turf Field. The Wildcats conclude the weekend hosting William & Mary Sunday at 1:00 p.m., a non-conference clash.
Sunday will also be a reunion of sorts for the Wildcats' head coach Ginny Turner, who played at William & Mary from 2001-2004 and one season under current Tribe coach Tess Ellis, then a volunteer assistant.
Fans can watch both games via the live streaming links provided, and can also follow live stats and the @DCFH Twitter account for updates.
LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore goalkeeper Bean Rodriguez recorded a career-high, posting 10 saves in Davidson's 6-0 loss to No. 11 Wake Forest Tuesday. The Demon Deacons were the first ranked opponents for the 'Cats this season. The Wildcats were only able to get off two shots, thanks to a pair of seniors in Lauren McFayden and Katherine English, both on-goal.
SCOUTING THE RAMS
VCU was picked seventh in the A-10 Preseason Coaches' Poll, with sophomore forward Emily McNamara picked to the preseason team. The Centreville, Va., native leads the team with four points (one goal and two assists). Only three other members of the Rams' team has scored this season, all coming in their overtime 3-2 victory over Longwood last Friday.
SCOUTING THE TRIBE
Like the 'Cats, William & Mary post a 1-4 record, but will face off against Preseason A-10 favorite Richmond on Friday before dueling with Davidson Sunday. The Tribe's only win was a 6-2 victory over Georgetown last weekend, and all of their losses have come against ranked opponents. W&M has two members on the squad with three goals each (Cammie Lloyd, Maria Jose Pastor), with Lloyd topping the team at seven points courtesy of an assist.
UP NEXT
Davidson continues conference play, traveling to Richmond, Va., to face the Spiders before making a stop in Philadelphia to take on La Salle.
