Atlantic 10 Release
DAVIDSON, N.C. – After making their first appearance in the Atlantic 10 Tournament last season as the fourth seed, Davidson field hockey has been selected to finish fourth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the league office Wednesday.
The Wildcats, led by 2015 A-10 Coach of the Year Ginny Turner, return a strong veteran contingency, welcoming back four seniors and seven juniors in addition to six sophomores. Leading the charge is senior Katherine English, who was named to the All-Tournament team last season.
Davidson made its first-ever trip to the conference championship a year ago after finishing in a three-way tie for second place with Massachusetts and Saint Joseph's- all with 5-3 marks in league play.
"Being picked fourth is a great testament to the hard work this team has put in last year, throughout the spring, and heading into 2016," Turner said. "From being picked almost last in the 2015 poll to making this jump in the 2016 poll gives us a lot of confidence amongst such a tough and competitive conference."
The 'Cats begin their campaign Friday, Aug. 26, welcoming Georgetown to Belk Turf Field. Friday will mark the fifth time in the last six seasons Davidson and Georgetown open their seasons against each other.
