DAVIDSON, N.C. – Belk Turf Field, home to the Davidson Field Hockey program, has undergone major renovations for the 2016 season.
"I am thrilled to have our facility project complete," said head coach Ginny Turner. "Everything looks amazing. We have already enjoyed the shade and protection over our benches, the storage right there at the field is so convenient and the new filming vantage point is perfect for video analysis."
"We hope that our new press box will give us an opportunity to host an Atlantic 10 Championship in the future," said Turner.
The $135,000 project allowed the teams to move to the opposite side of the grandstands and features a new press box, team benches and storage.
The state-of-the-art press box, with enough seating for 10-12 media members, was installed between the team benches. The two-story structure includes a video platform on the roof, providing a new vantage point for enhanced game production and coverage.
The bench areas themselves are enclosed, providing players with protection from the elements when not playing. The press box also features a huge storage unit at field level for the team to house their equipment.
These upgrades were made possible by the generosity of parents, alumni and supporters.
On the opposite side of the field from the press box and bench areas, features grandstands for approximately 400. The field also has lights for night play.
In August 2014, the playing surface was replaced with state-of-the-art AstroTurf 12. The field features an advanced watering system that provides irrigation and keeps the field wet during matches and practices.
The field is named in honor of Carol Grotnes Belk and was donated by her husband, Irwin Belk, class of 1945.
