Atlantic 10 Full Release
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – With the field hockey postseason slated to begin Friday, the Atlantic 10 conference has released its 2016 season awards, with three Davidson Wildcats earning honors.
Senior Katherine English has earned All-Conference Second Team recognition, while classmates Becca Jones and Lauren McFayden have been named to the 2016 All-Academic Team as released by the conference office Thursday morning.
English led the 2016 'Cats with eight goals and 25 points. She also chipped in nine assists, tying the school record for most in a single-season before her teammate, sophomore Courtney Byler, went on to take sole possession of the mark with 11.
She started every game of her DCFH career, tallying 48 points and turning in 19 contests with two points or more during her four seasons. After leading the 2015 Wildcats to their first Atlantic 10 Tournament berth in school history, she was named to the All-Championship Team. She finished tied for fourth in the league in points, tied for sixth in goals, and tied for seventh in assists.
Jones and McFayden both support stellar overall GPAs, with Jones majoring in history and McFayden in English. Both are two-time NFHCA National All-Academic team honorees, members of the Connor Eating House, and are the first two Wildcats to ever be named to the A-10 All-Academic squad.
To qualify for the All-Academic team, players must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, be in good academic standing, and be at least a sophomore in the classroom. 11 members were selected, as voted by the league's sports information directors.
McFayden pulled together a career season in her final campaign, scoring her first career goal against LIU Brooklyn and following up with two others later in the year. Jones has been a key contributor in each of her four seasons, totaling 14 goals, half of them coming during this past year. Jones finished fourth in the A-10 in shots, and has tallied 37 career points.
All three of the veterans will graduate from Davidson in May.
