Osment Breaks Another Record at the Carolina Cup

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Senior Erin Osment continued her torrid pace for the Davidson women's track and field team as the senior set another program record at the 2015 Carolina Cup hosted by Winthrop University, Wednesday night.
Osment, who set a new mark in the 5,000 meter run a week ago, raced to a first-place finished in the 3,000-meter run. The senior crossed in 9:44.58, to break her previous record of 9:59.91, set at the 2014 Carolina Cup. The Atlanta, Ga., native finished 15 seconds before the next finisher. Freshman Laurel Sheffield took fifth with a time of 10:52.72.
The Wildcats opened the meet with a 1-2 sweep of the 1,500-meter run. Junior Olivia Menden led the way as the junior collected another first-place victory with a time of 4:37.29. Senior Brigid Behrens wasn't far behind, crossing in 4:45.62. Freshman Eliza Lawless rounded out the top-five finishers, posting a time of 5:04.05.
The freshmen duo of Sarah Sears and Sierra Ponthier had a strong showing in the 800-meter run. The pair placed second and third, respectively. Sears finished in 2:15.73, while Ponthier crossed 2:17.66.
In the 400-meter run, Hannah Rieden took fourth with a time of 58.51. Ashlyn Gruber claimed eighth, posting a time of 59.89.
In the pole vault, Megan Comstock and Molly Marshall each cleared 11'4.50".
On the men's side, Patrick Rollo led the way as the junior claimed victory in the 800-meter run. Rollo took the event in 1:56.67, four seconds ahead of the next finisher.
In the field events, Chris Powell cleared 40'7" in the triple jump to take fourth place. Jordan Marshall cleared 5'8.75" in the high jump to take fourth, before registering a jump of 20'3.50" in the long jump to finish sixth.
Greg Sargent and Jerry Chang took ninth and tenth in the 200-meter dash. Sargent finished in 24.05, while Chang crossed in 24.07.
The track teams will take a week off before heading to the 'Cats head to their first inaugural Atlantic 10 Outdoor Championships in Fairfax, Va., May 2-3.
