MERION STATION, Pa. – Despite taking a one-goal lead midway through the opening frame, fourth-seeded Davidson fell to top-seeded Richmond, 2-1, in the Atlantic 10 Semifinals at Ellen Ryan Field Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats, making their first appearance at the A-10 Championship, concluded the 2015 season with an 8-11 overall record and a 5-3 conference mark.

Davidson got the scoring started midway through the opening frame off a penalty corner. Anna Davis fielded the ball from Hannah Fisher. Katherine English launched a shot from the top of the circle for an early 1-0 lead.

Richmond responded at the 28-minute mark off a penalty corner. Avery Safford inserted the ball to the top of the circle. Thalia Williamson found the stick of Amy Cooke, who slipped the ball past Emily Leytham to even the score.

The Spiders came out on fire in the second half, challenging the Davidson defense and peppering Leytham with shots. The defense stood tall, while Leytham turned away 12 shots.

Richmond finally broke through 22 minutes into the second half. Megan Miller sent a shot towards the cage and Hannah Thompson was there to poke the ball into the back of the cage to take a one-goal lead with 13 minutes remaining.
