
Gampper Commits to Davidson Field Hockey

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Head field hockey coach Ginny Turner has announced a new addition to the Davidson field hockey team as Lauren Gampper (Free Union, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) will join previously announced newcomers Paige Albert (Houston, Texas./St. John's School), Anna Brewer (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy), Alex Kane (Princeton, N.J./Hun School), Dodi Allocca (Richmond, Va.,/Collegiate School), Hannah Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe), Morgan French (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford Senior HS) and Kate Meeks (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) next fall.
A four-year starter at midfield and defense for head coach Shelly Edmonds at St. Anne's-Belfield School in Charlottesville, Va., Gampper was a two-time VISAA Division I All-State honoree as well as a two-time LIS All-Conference team member. She won the STAB Field Hockey Award in 2012 after winning the STAB Coaches' Award in 2011 in addition to serving as a team captain in 2013. Gampper helped the Saints to the Division II League of Independent Schools Championship in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
"Lauren is a fantastic addition to our strong class. She has speed and tenacity on the ball and will factor into our midfield and defense," said Turner. "Her hardworking attitude and passion for success will make her transition to the college game seamless."
Gampper played with head coach Keli Smith Puzo and the Field Hockey Life Club, where she appeared in the National Hockey Festival in 2012 and 2013. She also played in the Futures program in 2013 and 14, and has attended camps at Virginia, North Carolina, Dartmouth, Georgetown and Davidson. In addition, she competed in the Disney Field Hockey Showcase in 2011.
A talented soccer player, Gampper was a four-year starter for STAB and a three-year captain. She helped the Saints to the VISAA Division I State Championship in 2011 and was an all-conference and all-state honoree in 2012 and 2013. Scholastically, Gampper was a four-year member of the Dean's List, a 2013 AP Scholar Award winner and a 2014 National Merit Scholar. She is the daughter of Tom Gampper and Cindy Yoshida.
