SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Competing in just his second race since last spring, senior Andrew Lantz was voted the Southern Conference Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week by the league's coaches for meets this past weekend, it was announced Thursday.
Lantz finished third in the 1,500-meter run at the Charlotte 49er Classic this past weekend with a time of 3 minutes, 50.47 seconds in just his second race since last spring. His time is tops in the SoCon this season and ranked as a top-10 performance in Davidson history.
The Houston, Texas native has now claimed the weekly honor following the outdoor opener for three consecutive years.
Injuries prevented Lantz from competing during the 2013 cross country season, and his lone race during the indoor season was the distance medley relay at the SoCon Indoor Championships on March 1. He led off the Wildcats' effort, contributing to a third-place finish in near-school record time.
Davidson will next compete Friday and Saturday at the Raleigh Relays and the Winthrop Invitational.
