DAVIDSON, N.C. – Seven rookies will join the Davidson field hockey team for the 2014 season, as head coach Ginny Turner announced the additions of incoming freshmen Paige Albert (Houston, Texas./St. John's School), Anna Brewer (Louisville, Ky./Sacred Heart Academy), Alex Kane (Princeton, N.J./Hun School), Dodi Allocca (Richmond, Va.,/Collegiate School), Hannah Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe), Morgan French (Fredericksburg, Va./Stafford Senior HS) and Kate Meeks (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman).
Albert hails from Houston, Texas, where she was a three-year varsity player at forward for St. John's School. An all-conference honoree in 2012 and 2013, she served as a team captain in 2013. Albert was a Harrow Sports/NFHCA High School All-Region team honoree as a junior and senior, and competed in the National Futures Championships from 2010-2013, earning Barbara Longstreth Sportsmanship accolades in 2010 and 2011. In addition, she took part in the AAU Junior Olympics in 2012 and the National Indoor Tournament in 2014 as a member of the Texas Pride U-19 Club.
"I'm excited to welcome Paige to Davidson this fall. Her speed and tenacity will be a huge asset to us on the forward line," said Turner. "She has a quick stick, is creative in front of the cage and has a wide range of ability to create attacking opportunities. Her spirit and passion will add a spark to our forward line next fall."
A four-year member of the cheerleading squad, Albert was an NCA All-American for two seasons as well as an all-state and all-region honoree as a member of the diving team. She was a St. John's School Athletic Excellence Award Nominee for the top student-athlete in her class.
Brewer, a midfielder, arrives in Davidson following a three-year varsity career at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, Ky., where she was a teammate of current Wildcat Katherine English. A 2013 team captain, Brewer helped the Valkyrie to the 2012 state championship and to the runner-up spot in both 2011 and 2013 while leading the squad to the Apple Tournament Championship three times. In addition, she was a five-time Futures participant and made four appearances at the Disney Showcase and at Festival. Brewer also went to the National Futures Championship in 2010 and 2011, and to the Firecracker Tournament in 2010 and 2011. She earned Academic All-State First Team honors all four years and was also an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction.
"Anna is an extremely hard working player who will transition easily into our midfield line with her sound fundamentals and fearlessness," said Turner. "Her great attitude and ability to play strong defense, while also creating quick counter attacks, will make her transition to Davidson seamless."
Equally successful in the classroom, Brewer currently ranks first out of nearly 200 students in her class. The daughter of Tom and Mitzi Brewer, she participates in Future Doctors of America, Teens Fighting Cancer, Culinary Club, Peer Leaders and Key Club. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society and has spent her time volunteering at Down Syndrome of Louisville, Oaklawn Rehabilitation and Rustic Pathways to Costa Rica. Brewer took part in the Duke TIP Summer Studies Camp in 2009 and boasts a heavy AP and IB course load as an International Baccalaureate Diploma Candidate.

Kane also garnered Central New Jersey Coaches Association First Team Honors twice and was named to the second team once in her career.

"We are thrilled to add another stand out defender to our backfield.
