NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Following its inaugural season in the Atlantic 10 conference, the Davidson field hockey team yielded two all-conference selections, the conference announced Thursday. Junior Melissa Funsten received second team all-conference accolades, while freshman Hannah Fisher pulled in All-Rookie recognition.
Funsten has been one of the most dynamic players on the field this season. The junior led the way for Davidson, posting nine points on three goals and three assists, all team highs. The Raleigh, N.C., native also accounted for two game-winners this season, including the lone goal in Davidson's first A-10 win over Saint Louis.
After turning in a stellar first season, Fisher earned one of 11 spots on the conference's all-rookie squad. The Fredericksburg, Va., native started all 19 games in the midfield, tallying seven points on two goals and three assists. Fisher helped Davidson finish the season in style, ending the year on a high note with an epic 1-0 double-overtime victory of A-10 rival VCU in the Wildcats' last home game.
Davidson finished the 2014 season with a 3-16 overall record and a 2-6 mark in league play.
