RICHMOND, Va. – Senior Kaity Anstrom recorded her second career goal, but it was not enough for the Wildcats, as Richmond topped Davidson, 6-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Leytham finished the day with five saves, while Davidson (3-16, 2-6 A-10) had three shots. Richmond's Kelley Wentling steered away one shot.
Richmond's (10-9, 6-2 A-10) Rebecca Barry gave the Spiders the advantage and some momentum just two minutes into the game, tallying an unassisted score. Barry added her second of the game after launching a pass from teammate Blair Kline from the top of the circle. Hannah Thomson tallied one to increase the lead to three heading into halftime. Emma Johansson dished the ball across the circle to Thomson, who buried the ball in the lower right corner.
Richmond increased their advantage to 5-0 behind two more scores from Barry. She scored an unassisted tally 1:07 into the second stanza before adding her fourth goal of the day after Kline set up a penalty corner a minute and a half later. Barry capped her scoring with an unassisted goal in the 68th minute, to create the final margin.
With less than a minute to play, Kaity Anstrom put the 'Cats on the board. Katherine English took the ball inside the circle, beat a Richmond defender and found Anstrom in the middle. Anstrom controlled the ball and fired past Kelly Wentling for the lone goal.
The Wildcats close out 2014 on a high note, going 1-1 in the final two contests to finish the season 3-16 overall and 2-8 in A-10 play.
