Murray Honored by the SoCon with Player of the Month

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Senior Laura Murray capped off a solid month of December by earning the Southern Conference Player of the Month honors as announced by the league office recently.
The monthly award is the first of Murray's career, who was the league's SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2011. The senior shooting-guard twice this year has been named SoCon Player of the Week (Dec. 3 & 10), giving her three for her career.
She averaged 21.4 points and just over six rebounds a game during the month as the Wildcats went 2-3 and opened SoCon play with a with a pair of wins for the third straight season. Murray scored in double figures in all five contests, pushing her streak to 13 on the season. She notched at least 20 points in her last four games of the month, giving her nine 20-point outings on the year and 26 for her career.
Murray scored a season-high 25 points in a win over Wofford, Dec. 7, and followed that up with 24 points and 11 rebounds for her first career double-double in a home win over Furman two days later to earn SoCon Player of the Week honors.
She added 23 points in a defeat to Charlotte and 20 against Richmond to close the month, helping her move into second place all-time in the Wildcat record book in points (1,546), right behind two-time league player of the year Sophia Aleksandravicius.
For the month, the Harrisburg, Pa., senior shot 43.8 percent from the floor (32-for-73) and 39.3 percent from three-point range (11-for-28). She was also 32-for-43 from the free-throw line (74.4 percent) and averaged 2.8 assists and 2.6 steals per game.
Murray and the Wildcats (6-9, 3-1 SoCon) return home for a two-game stretch against Elon and UNCG starting this weekend, Jan. 11-13. Game times are 2 and 7 p.m.
