DAF: Moving from Foundation to Fund
9/6/2013 12:55:00 PM | DAF
The future of Davidson philanthropy is here. On July 1, the first day of the 2013-14 fiscal year, the Annual Fund became The Fund for Davidson. This change was implemented to simplify the ways donors are able to choose the areas of campus they want to support. The name also intends to recognize the college-wide impact of alumni and parent giving.
To provide additional clarity for donors who choose to support the college's 21 Division I athletic programs, the Davidson Athletic Foundation is now the Davidson Athletic Fund (DAF). In addition to fundraising, the DAF team focuses on events, communications and other initiatives that connect Davidson alumni, parents and friends to the athletic teams they wish to support.
"The Davidson Athletic Foundation has long-served the needs of the college's athletic programs, and I am grateful to those DAF board members and staff who have worked tirelessly to support our 21 teams," said Annie Porges, DAF director. "As support for athletics has grown, we thought it important to recognize the multiple roles our office plays and to provide a direct line from gift to fund for our donors."
During the 2012-13 fiscal year, more than $4.4 million was raised in annual, scholarship and facility gifts for Davidson's athletic programs. This outstanding success helps to make a Davidson experience possible for student athletes, and it increases the teams' competitive advantage.
"It is impossible to thank our alumni, parents and friends enough for all they give to Davidson Athletics," said Jim Murphy, director of athletics. "Every day, I see the determination of our student athletes on and off the field. We are able to offer them something special – an exceptional academic experience in a Division I athletics program in a personal, challenging liberal arts college setting. Gifts to the Davidson Athletic Fund make it all possible."
