DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson field hockey head coach Ginny Turner announced Wednesday the hiring of former Wake Forest goalkeeper Kaitlyn Ruhf as an assistant coach on her staff. Ruhf will work with the Wildcats' defense and goalkeepers in addition to other duties.
"I am thrilled to have Kaitlyn join the program. Her experience at Wake Forest and defensive knowledge, along with her passion and energy will be a tremendous asset to the team," said Turner. "I have been impressed with her strong work ethic and her desire to be a mentor on and off the field. Kaitlyn is a great addition to the Davidson community and will help us continue the growth of DCFH on the field and in the classroom."
Ruhf spent four seasons as nationally-ranked Wake Forest's primary netminder, becoming just the fourth player in program history to make over 300 career saves. She boasts 69 starts in 72 appearances, totaling 4,782 minutes in goal. In addition, Ruhf started in net for the Demon Deacons in a trio of NCAA tournament games, including the 2009 NCAA Quarterfinals vs. North Carolina.
Off the field, Ruhf excelled in the classroom and was named to the 2011 and 2012 All-ACC Academic teams. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Wake Forest in May of 2012. While in Winston-Salem, Ruhf picked up valuable coaching skills while assisting with the Wake Forest Field Hockey Camps along with the Weed Whackers program, a WF youth initiative aimed at spreading awareness and a love of the game through the local community. She also helped with Champions' Edge and the Futures program, working with players on defense and goalkeeping.
"I am excited to be joining the Davidson field hockey program and would like to thank Coach Turner for the opportunity," said Ruhf. "After facing them all four years of my college career, I have always had a great respect for the Wildcats' aggressive style of play. I look forward to working with them and am looking forward to accomplishing great things with the team."
A native of Bethlehem, Pa., Ruhf played four seasons at Freedom High School in the Lehigh Valley Conference, one of the premier high school field hockey leagues in the country. In addition to being a two-time all-conference selection and 2007 and 2008 division champion, Ruhf was a member of the U-16 National team, which is part of the Olympic Pipeline, and gained international experience playing in Canada and Holland.
