DAVIDSON, N.C. — In addition to recruits Katherine English, Anne Federico and Lauren McFayden, Charlotte native Becca Jones has committed to join the Davidson field hockey team for the 2013 season as announced by head coach Ginny Turner this week.
“I'm excited to announce Becca as another member of the Davidson field hockey class of 2017,” said Turner. “She is a great addition to this class. Her athleticism and ability to adapt will help her easily transition to any position on the field.”
A local product, Jones played four seasons of field hockey, three of which came at the varsity level, at Charlotte Latin under the direction of Deb Savino. She was a three-year starter for the Hawks at forward and midfield, contributing to the team's CISAA Championship and fourth-place finish at the NCISAA State Tournament. As a senior, Jones was a Charlotte Observer Pre-Season Player to Watch and earned all-conference and NC All-Star honors, as well as a spot in the Cary Academy Play for the Cure All-Tournament Team. In both 2010 and 2011 she helped lead the team to the CISAA Conference Championship and the NCISAA State Championship, earning all-conference honorable mention both seasons.
Jones joined future Davidson teammate McFayden as a member of the Charlotte Ambush, helping the club to a tenth-place finish at the National Club Championships in 2012-13 and a gold medal at the Disney Field Hockey Showcase in 2012. She has participated in Futures showcases or tournaments at Virginia Beach and Williamsburg, and has attended camps at Princeton, Duke, Davidson, North Carolina, Richmond and Wake Forest, among others.
In the classroom, Jones boasts a 4.02 grade-point average as a member of the Headmaster's List. She has served as the student body secretary and junior class treasurer and is a member of the SADD and Spanish Clubs, Charlotte Latin Summer Programs, Queens College Music Academy and Myers Park Presbyterian Youth Council. Jones has taken AP courses in History, English and Math, and earned a Bronze Award on the National Spanish Exam. She was also a member of the five-time state champion Charlotte Latin soccer team and was a team captain on the basketball team.
