DAVIDSON, N.C. – One of the nation's top-ranked teams was too much for the Davidson field hockey team's struggling offense as the Wildcats were blanked by No. 2 North Carolina on Tuesday evening at Belk Turf Field.

The Tar Heels, who fell from their previous No. 1 ranking earlier in the day, put 24 shots on the Davidson defense. Despite a 15-save effort from Wildcat goalkeeper Sarah Fisher, the Tar Heels put up five goals in the first half and were limited to just a converted penalty stroke in the second. UNC took nine penalty corners, scoring on two of them, while the Wildcats were awarded three.

Fisher's superb effort moved her into fourth place on Davidson's all-time saves list.

Loren Shealy knocked in the first two goals for the Tar Heels, both times taking feeds from Kelsey Kolojejchick. The first came off of a penalty corner, while the second was a deflected pass.

Charlotte Craddock then added a third tally for the Tar Heels, taking a feed from Jaclyn Gaudioso Radvany and sending it into the left corner as UNC took a 3-0 with 15 minutes to play in the first half. Katie Plyler would score off of a rebound to make it 4-0, before Catilin Van Sickle took an Emily Wold pass off another penalty corner and sent it in.

Fisher made 10 saves in the second half, including three in a row off of a UNC penalty corner, to limit the damage. The Tar Heels lone score in the final 30 minutes came on a penalty stroke by Rachel Magerman.

Tyler McFayden had the 'Cats lone shot of the half, but was blocked near the top of the circle.

Davidson returns to league action on Friday when they travel to Virginia to face Radford in a 7 p.m. tilt.
