DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off a 5-3 NorPac win over Appalachian State on Sunday, the Wildcat field hockey team will look to carry their offensive momentum into Tuesday's meeting with No. 1 North Carolina. The teams are set to face off at 5 p.m. on Belk Turf Field.
SERIES HISTORY
The Wildcats and the Tar Heels will meet for the 11th time in history in 2012. The two teams first met in 1977, with UNC holding the all-time advantage at 10-0. Last season, the then second-ranked Tar Heels posted a 5-0 win over the 'Cats in Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels took a 9-0 victory the last time the two teams met at Belk Turf Field in 2009.
LAST WEEKEND…
Both teams are coming off wins as they enter the match up. UNC is in the midst of a seven-game win streak and defeated ACC foe Duke 7-3 on Friday before downing NorPac West member Stanford 6-2 on Sunday. Davidson picked up its first NorPac win of the season with a 5-3 victory over App. State on Sunday.
PIDCOCK RECORDS HAT TRICK
Freshman Lucy Pidcock notched her first career goal in Sunday's win over App. State before adding two more for the hat trick. Pidcock becomes the second Wildcat player this season to record one as Finley Amato did so in a 4-1 win over Ball State. She is the first freshman to do so since 2007 and earned NorPac East Rookie of the Week honors.
MAKING HISTORY
Finley Amato has the chance to make Davidson program history in tonight's contest. Amato currently has 39 career goals, leaving her one shy of the all-time record of 40 set by Kayli Maxwell from 2004-07. Sarah Fisher is also closing in on a record, needing just three saves to move into a tie for fourth place all-time.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats will continue with NorPac play on Friday, Sept. 28, when they head to Virginia to take on the Radford Highlanders in a 7 p.m. tilt.
