DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson finished up a busy week of volunteering by helping the town of Davidson on Saturday, Sept. 15, with its seventh annual Run for Green.
The Davidson Lands Conservancy again sponsored the Run for Green, a series of races (half-marathon, 10K and 5K) that support their efforts to protect land and educate the public about the benefits of nature and open spaces. The women's basketball team volunteered as guided personal on the race in directing the runners through the course, while cheering them on.
"It's a great chance for our team to get out in the community and support them, much like they do us during the season," said head coach Michele Savage. "We appreciate the support they bring us during the season and it's a chance to give back. We were thankful we could be apart of this tradition."
The Run for Green 10K was part of the 'Run for Our Communities' race series, a points based series featuring several cause-oriented runs in Davidson and surrounding areas. The 2011 race saw just over 800 runners participate in the three races.
Thursday, Sept. 13, saw the Wildcats help the Boys and Girls Clubs of Great Charlotte at the Charlotte Motor Speedway.
