‘Cats to Host Pair of Home Games This Weekend

VS. THE RAMS
The Wildcats and the Rams will meet for the 20th time in program history on Friday. The 'Cats (2-3) will look to hand the Rams their first loss of the season as the squad enters the match up at 4-0. Virginia Commonwealth leads the overall series 11-8, including a 2-1 victory in Richmond last season. Finley Amato scored the 'Cats lone goal of the game off of a deflected shot by Tyler McFayden.
VS. THE SPIDERS
The 'Cats will return to the field on Sunday to face the Richmond Spiders in a 1 p.m. contest. It will be the 14th meeting all-time between the two programs, with the Spiders leading the way at 8-4-1. The two teams, who first met in 1986, last faced off in September of 2010. The 'Cats earned an exciting 3-2 overtime victory from the Spiders that season.

COACHING CONNECTION
During the Wildcats' last homestand, head coach Ginny Turner saw a familiar face on the opposing sideline when facing her alma mater (William & Mary) and former coach (Peel Hawthorne). This weekend, Turner will match up with former teammate and current VCU head coach Shannon Karl, who also played for Coach Hawthorne and the Tribe.
'CATS EARN HONORS
The Wildcats have accrued a slew of honors since the last home game. Freshman Anna Davis earned NorPac East Off. Player of the Week honors scoring two goals and an assist in her first collegiate games. Davidson then swept the NorPac weekly honors the following week, as Finley Amato earned NorPac East Off. Player of the Week honors, Sarah Fisher was named the Def. Player of the Week and Melissa Funsten claimed Rookie of the Week honors.
MOVIN' ON UP
Goalkeeper Sarah Fisher is moving up the all-time rankings. Fisher now ranks third in program history with 264 career saves and is also third with 3436:29 minutes. Teammate Finley Amato has moved into third place in scoring with 38 career goals.
CAPTAINS
The captains for the 2012 season will be senior forward Finley Amato and senior goalkeeper Sarah Fisher, as announced by Coach Turner at the start of this season.
NEXT UP
The Wildcats will open up NorPac play September 23 when they travel to Boone, N.C., to take on App. State in a 1 p.m.
