DAVIDSON, N.C. – In the inaugural year of a Senior Class Gift partnership between the Davidson Athletic Foundation (DAF) and the Davidson College Annual Fund, 95.5 percent of the class of 2012 student athletes participated in annual giving to Davidson College.
During the 2011-2012 fiscal year, the DAF, in conjunction with the Annual Fund, individually visited with each of Davidson's 21 varsity sports teams in order to educate the student athletes on the ways in which they can continue to support their teams after graduation. Together with the coaching staff, Senior Class Gift agents, DAF, and Annual Fund staff, the individual team meetings focused on explaining the impact gifts to the DAF have on the student athlete experience.
“Our 95.5 percent participation among senior class athletes speaks volumes about the pride and passion that our student athletes have for our college,” said DAF Assistant Director Anna Mitchell '08. “Our student athletes understand the importance of 'paying it forward' in creating a legacy to ensure the valuable Davidson tradition.”
“One of the pillars of Davidson is the extent to which our student athletes are a part of our community,” said Annual Fund Fellow Margie Gudaitis '11, who oversees the Senior Class Gift program. “These numbers indicate that our student athletes are not just invested in their experience as athletes here, but that they are just as committed to the future of Davidson and our competitive Division I athletic programs.”
