Nine Football ‘Cats Named to NFF Hampshire Honor Society

DALLAS - Nine Davidson College football players have been named to the 2012 National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (NFF) Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better throughout their college career.
John Behm, Joe Cline, Chase Culbertson, Tyler Hammett, Matt Heavner, Richard Lockridge, Ellis Martin, Morgan Popham and Josh Yost earned the honor from Davidson.
A total of 721 players from 232 schools qualified for membership in the society's sixth year, marking this year's class as the largest since the program's creation in 2007.
Behm posted 37 tackles, including 26 solo hits last season. The outside linebacker had 5.5 tackles for loss, a sack, three pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
Cline, an offensive lineman, started the first four games of the season and played in all 11 contests. Davidson ranked eighth in FCS football in passing offense (303.3 yds/gm) and 59th in total offense (357.1 yds/gm).
Culbertson, a fullback, averaged 4.3 yards a carry and scored three touchdowns, and Hammett, a defensive back, played in 10 games and recorded six tackles.
Heavner, who saw significant time at quarterback in his first two seasons, finished his career with 364 passing yards and a touchdown, while Lockridge, an inside linebacker, played in nine games and had six tackles as a senior.
Martin led the team with 8.5 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss. The defensive lineman played in all 11 games and finished the campaign with 49 hits.
Popham, a defensive lineman, collected 18 tackles, two tackles for loss and recovered two fumbles. Yost missed the 2011 campaign with injuries and served as a student assistant, but the receiver finished his career with 26 catches for 249 yards and a touchdown.
Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include: Being a starter or a significant substitute at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III, or an NAIA college or university; Achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout entire course of undergraduate study; and Meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements and graduation.
