Funsten to Play in FCS Senior Scout Bowl Saturday

SOUTHFIELDS, N.Y. – Davidson wide receiver Lanny Funsten will compete on the FCS South roster in the 2012 FCS Senior Scout Bowl, which will kickoff Saturday at 5 p.m. in Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The game is hosted by the Collegiate Developmental Football League and will be streamed live at fcsseniorbowl.com/watch.
Funsten, a three-time All-PFL honoree, became Davidson's all-time receptions (229), receiving yards (2,770) and reception touchdowns (20) leader during his senior campaign this past season, continuing as Davidson's leading receiver for a third-straight season with 78 receptions for 948 yards and six touchdowns in 11 starts. His receptions (7.09) and receiving yards (86.18) per game averages ranked second and third, respectively, in the conference and 16th and 25th, respectively, in the nation. A team captain, he set a Pioneer Football League record with 17 receptions in a game against Jacksonville, also totaling 246 yards and a touchdown to earn the PFL Offensive Player of the Week award and a College Football Performance Awards honorable mention. He also had a 13-catch, 131–yard performance against eventual league co-champion Butler.
Funsten played in 38 games during his four-year career, drawing 31 starts, and was named a first-team All-American by BeyondSportsNetwork.com following his junior season. Funsten set a school record in 2011 with 100 receptions, and became the first Wildcat with over 1,000 receiving yards since 1972. He ranked eighth in the country in receiving yards (100.6/gm) and third in receptions (9.1/gm) and led the PFL in both categories.
