DAVIDSON, N.C. – A nine-save effort from Davidson goalkeeper Sarah Fisher wasn't enough as the No. 22 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (5-7, 2-1 ACC) stymied the Wildcat field hockey (6-7, 4-0 NorPac) offense and took a 6-1 victory from the 'Cats at Belk Turf Field on Tuesday evening.

Brooke Osborne tallied her second goal of the season in the loss. Finley Amato, who led the team with two shots, picked up the assist. The 'Cats were outshot 21-3 in the contest, with Fisher breaking up numerous passes in front of the cage in addition to making several stellar saves.

Jess Newak scored less than 30 seconds into the game off a feed from Taylor Rhea to put the Demon Deacons up 1-0. Jess McFayden kept the WF offense rolling soon after with another strike off a penalty corner before a tally by Kari Walkley off a rebound made it 3-0 in favor of the Demon Deacons with 15 minutes play in the half.

The 'Cats would break up the shutout just before halftime. Osborne redirected an attempt by Amato, putting the ball past Wake Forest keeper Kaitlyn Ruhf to put the Wildcats on the board down 3-1 at the half.

Rhea knocked in a goal of her own 10 minutes into the second half, taking a feed from Anna Kozniuk as Wake Forest took a 4-1 lead. Kozniuk then recorded an unassisted strike of her own into the left corner of the net before Jillian Anzalone was awarded and successfully converted a penalty stroke to give Wake Forest the 6-1 win.

The Wildcats will head to New York this weekend where they are slated to play a pair of non-conference contests. They will face Colgate in a noon match on Sunday in Hamilton, N.Y., before taking on Cornell in a 4 p.m. contest on Monday.
