DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson field hockey forward Finley Amato and goalkeeper Sarah Fisher were both honored by the NorPac Field Hockey Conference on Monday for their performances in the 'Cats games vs. UNC and Radford last week.
Amato was named the NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after previously earning the accolade on Sept. 4. The senior forward became the Wildcats' all-time leading goal scorer in Friday's contest by recording her 40th career goal in the Wildcats' overtime win at Radford. Amato, who entered the season in fourth place all-time with 34 career goals, tallied the Wildcats' first goal of the game before notching the game winner in overtime. It marked the eighth game-winning goal of her career.
Fisher was awarded the NorPac East's Defensive Player of the Week award, also claiming the honor for the second time this season. The senior keeper recorded a season-high 15 saves in the 'Cats loss to No. 2 UNC on Tuesday. She then added in seven more in the squad's win at Radford to post 22 stops on the weekend.
The Wildcats have now claimed NorPac East honors in four of the six weeks of competition. Anna Davis (Aug. 28) and Amato (Sept. 4, Oct. 1) have both earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Fisher (Sept. 4, Oct. 1) has twice claimed Defensive Player of the Week acknowledgement. Melissa Funsten (Sept. 4) and Lucy Pidcock (Sept. 25) have both been named the Rookie of the Week this season.
Amato, Fisher and company will host the Appalachian State Mountaineers in a 6:30 p.m. contest at Belk Turf Field on Tuesday.
