DAVIDSON, N.C. – Last week the Davidson field hockey team took time away from the field and the classroom to help out at a local elementary school, taking part in the 10th annual Tigers on the Prowl event.
Tigers on the Prowl is a program at Davidson Elementary that promotes a physically active lifestyle. Students have the opportunity to run or walk laps at recess time and earn memberships into clubs for each distance they surpass. Six miles will bring them into the 10k club, while 13 provides membership to the half marathon club. Students who accumulate 26 miles join the marathon club while a distance of 52 miles is an entry to the second marathon club. Students earn color-coded key chains for each level before claiming t-shirt at the marathon club level.
“Tigers on the Prowl is a great program that Davidson Elementary runs and we were glad to get involved this year,” said head field hockey coach Ginny Turner. “The students at Davidson Elementary were so much fun to be around and it was exciting to share our passion for health and fitness with them!”
The Wildcats will return to Belk Turf Field on Tuesday to host Appalachian State in a 6:30 p.m. game.
