Fisher Named NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week

RADFORD, Va. – Davidson field hockey junior goalkeeper Sarah Fisher was named the NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week after posting a season-opening shutout against Georgetown Friday, the league announced Monday.

Fisher (Fredericksburg, Va.) made eight saves, including five in the first half when Georgetown held the upper hand in offensive pressure. Classmate Annie Evans scored twice for the 'Cats for a 2-0 victory. The shutout was the fifth of Fisher's career and second in a season-opener.

The weekly conference honor is the fourth of Fisher's career, as she was named the NorPac East Defensive player of the Week three times as a sophomore last season in her first season as a starter.

Fisher and the Wildcats will face a strong opponent in their home opener Saturday, as No. 16 Louisville will challenge the 'Cats on Belk Turf Field starting at 1 p.m. Louisville dropped a 3-1 decision to California to open the season, but rallied to defeat No. 13 Michigan State, 2-1.
