Field Hockey Receives Top-20 Votes in Kookaburra/NFHCA Preseason Poll

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The Davidson field hockey team received votes in the 2011 Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Preseason Top 20 Poll released Tuesday by the NFHCA.
The Wildcats, the defending NorPac East regular season champions, received two points.
Davidson head coach Ginny Turner, the reigning NorPac Coach of the Year, will enter her fifth season in charge of the 'Cats. Senior captains Hannah English and Christine Rua, and 2010 NorPac East Player of the Year, Finley Amato, will lead Davidson on the field.
Davidson is the lone NorPac East team to receive votes. Defending NorPac champion Stanford was ranked 20th, while California totaled 29 points.
Four of Davidson's non-conference opponents cracked the Top 20, while road-opponent VCU also received votes. The 'Cats home-opener foe, Louisville (Sept. 3 at 1 p.m.), was ranked 16th. Davidson will also travel to No. 17 Albany, No. 2 North Carolina and No. 11 Wake Forest this season.
