Wildcat Women’s Basketball Rolls to 88-57 Win on Senior Day

DAVIDSON, N.C. — Amanda Ottaway led five Wildcats in double figures with a career-best 14 points and Davidson gave seniors Ashley Lax and Chloe Woodington a winning farewell in cruising to its biggest win of the year, an 88-57 victory over Wofford on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day in women's basketball action.
Lax was one of the five 'Cats (13-16, 8-12 SoCon) to score in double figures, closing out her last home game in Belk Arena with 12 points, getting nine of them on three treys. Woodington dropped in three points, while helping Davidson to 19 assists with four of her own and pocketed three steals.
Ottaway led Davidson to a 50 percent shooting night (29-58), going 4-of-7 from the field and hitting 6-of-7 free throws. The Wildcats as a team canned 24-of-28 free throws on the afternoon with four different players hitting at least three at line.
Sophia Aleksandravicius added her eighth double-double of the year with 12 points and 11 boards, Laura Murray had 12 points and five assists and Katrin Chiemeka tallied 10 points and eight boards off the bench.
Wofford (7-21, 3-17 SoCon) was led by Mahagony William's 15 points and nine rebounds, while April Moorhouse came off the bench for 14 points.
The Wildcats blew the game open with a 17-4 run in the first half that turned a 9-6 lead at the 15:34 mark into a 26-10 advantage after Lax capped off the run with a triple and 8:46 left in the period.
Another Lax trey later made it 36-16 and Davidson held a 46-26 lead at the half.
Davidson opened the second half then with a 10-2 run for a 56-28 lead and 17:02 on the clock. The lead would remain in 20's the majority of the final half before Ottaway and Chiemeka pushed it into the 30's with a pair of free throws in the last 1:53 of the game.
The Wildcat now gear up for the Southern Conference Tournament, Mar. 3-7, with a matchup in the first round against ninth-seeded College of Charleston on Thursday, Mar. 3.
GAME NOTE: The 88 points were the most scored by Davidson since it scored 90 at home vs. Wofford on Dec. 13, 2009 ... the Wildcats have hit the 80-point mark in four of the last six meetings with Wofford ... Davidson turned 23 Terrier turnovers into a season-high 30 points ... the 'Cats 41 bench points were a season-best ... Barbara Sitton had her eight game of the season with six or more assists and has dished out 20 in the last three contests ... Davidson's finished 8-5 at home, its 10th straight year with a winning record in Belk Arena.
